Golden Fashion Moments

Red Carpet Review – The 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards and the 2010 Screen Actors Guild Awards

Awards season is in full swing and the stars descended upon the red carpet for two of the season’s most celebrated award shoes: The 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards and the 2010 Screen Actors Guild Awards.

There were many well-styled celebrities at the Golden Globes and the following are the ones who stood from the rest and my personal favorites.

Ginnifer Goodwin

Nicole Kidman, the very first presenter of the gala, donned a light peach satin Nina Ricci gown and was definitely peachy keen while accessorizing with Fred Leighton jewelry. Although the color almost matched her pale skin, it somehow was very complimentary. The draping and bow accents on the Nina Ricci gown was exquisitely placed and made Kidman look like an absolute dream.

Another pale beauty, Maggie Gyllenhaal, also chose a peach gown for the affair, while supporting her Crazy Heart co-star Jeff Bridges. Gyllenhaal looked extremely pretty in her RM by Roland Mouret siren gown and simple Bulgari jewels. I’m glad she decided to only adorn herself with minimal jewelry because her dress was so architecturally complex with an origami-inspired front. Although Gyllenhaal stumbled a bit while delivering her lines during the award show, her pleasantly dainty ensemble made up for the slight mishap.

Although Ginnifer Goodwin did not win an award like her Big Love co-star Chloë Sevigny, she brilliantly outshined her on the red carpet. Thanks to a cobalt blue Vionnet short, cocktail dress, Goodwin was a breath of fresh air amidst floor-length silhouettes and ball gowns. She wasn’t the only one who went short, Julia Roberts wore vintage Yves Saint Laurent, yet Roberts failed to impress like Goodwin because her ensemble was much too simple. Goodwin went simplistically chic for accessories with a Leiber clutch and black satin Brian Atwood shoes.

January Jones

January Jones, nominated for her role in the show Mad Men, was effortlessly and all-encompassing modern in her black Lanvin gown with ruffled shoulder details, as she explained that she tries to stray away from 1960s’ styled clothing when not on set and in her “off-duty life.” She wore a pair of Brian Atwood shoes and an amazing Neil Lane diamond deco bracelet. The best part of Jones’ ensemble was her perfectly coordinated black satin ribbon headband, which made her look all that more classy and sophisticated.

Although Emily Blunt admitted to having a dress dilemma and could not decide between two dresses, I’m quite thrilled she went with the fair pink Dolce & Gabbana tulle and chiffon number. The dress was fitted, yet at the same time, and in all the right places, beautiful and flow-y. The Young Victoria best actress nominee accessorized with a Ferragamo clutch and two, one on each wrist, Lorraine Schwartz colored bracelets. To top off the simple and effortlessly gorgeous look, Blunt went with relaxed tousled waves, which was the perfect compliment to her otherwise put-together look.

The face of Christian Dior’s Lady Dior bag, Marion Cotillard stayed true to the brand by wearing a bottle green Dior satin gown. The dress was one-shouldered, which is one of Cotillard’s favorite and most used silhouettes, and definitely had a lingerie-inspired feel to it. She adorned herself with a Roger Vivier clutch, Jimmy Choo heeled sandals, and Chopard jewels, which included 12-carat platinum and diamond hair clips and platinum and trillion cut diamond bracelets. Marion Cotillard was my downright most adored star of the night because she epitomized sex appeal, yet was absolutely glamorous.

Fashionably Most Under-Rated Stars of the 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards

Zoe Saldana

Although Zoe Saldana is a part of the cast of Avatar, soon to be one of the biggest movies of all time, she has not been getting as much buzz for her beautiful outfit at the Golden Globes as I think she should be getting. Saldana dressed in a textured, tiered, and ruffled, strapless Louis Vuitton gown, which may seem like too much, but it flaunted her slender frame exquisitely. Her relaxed, side-swept waves were the perfect accessory in addition to Lorraine Schwartz jewelry.

Best Actress winner for The United States of Tara, Toni Collette wore a fabulous Elie Saab gold beaded gown filled with art-deco sequins, and matching clutch by the same designer. Her dress also featured a plunging neckline, which was quite flattering to Collette’s frame and figure. Her look was pure Old Hollywood glamour as she had a relaxed up-do and minimal Neil Lane jewelry.

The 2010 Screen Actors Guild Awards were unfortunately less impressive when it came to the red carpet fashions. Not many stood out, but here are the few that did.

The ageless and stunning, wife of Kevin Bacon and star of The Closer, Kyra Sedgwick was simply beautiful in an ivory white fishtail gown by Vera Wang that mimicked a blushing bride wedding dress, which is what Wang is also known for. The dress was tiered and contained gray tulle accents as well as a crystal broche. Sedgwick didn’t accessorize with much else except Fred Leighton diamonds, which was already enough for her sparkling personality.

Red carpet newcomer, Lea Michele, also one of my favorite dressed at the Golden Globes, but not mentioned here, stunned at the SAG Awards in a plunging emerald green empire style Malandrino gown. Part of the cast of Glee, winner of Best Comedy Ensemble and many adoring fans, Michele is definitely the star of the night in her brilliantly colored dress, which was accessorized with Tiffany & Co. jewelry and relaxed, tousled waves.

Diane Kruger and Joshua Jackson

Diane Kruger, one of Hollywood’s most fashionable celebrities, took command and more than redeemed herself from her monstrosity of an outfit that she wore to the Golden Globes, in this deep marigold, off-shoulder Jason Wu creation. The flowing train of this gown that followed Kruger on the red carpet was the perfect compliment to its’ sexily draped and ruched bodice. Her deep red lips and vintage ruby Harry Winston jewels just added more to this glamorous and sexy look of Diane Kruger.
